So, it felt only natural for our distillery to host some events for this year’s Dublin Book Festival, where stories—told through words, music, and conversation—took centre stage.
This November, our distillery transformed into a space where whiskey and literature met, with four memorable events that brought together authors, musicians, and guests to share in the magic of storytelling.
A Month of Whiskey and Words
You Spin Me Round
On Thursday, November 7th, the festival began with You Spin Me Round, a captivating event exploring how music shapes lives and creativity. Writers Wendy Erskine, Aingeala Flannery, and Declan Long joined Tony Clayton-Lea in conversation, reflecting on personal moments tied to music. As DJ Gavin Corbett spun tracks referenced in their discussions, the evening created a vibrant dialogue between words and melodies—much like the harmony we strive for in every drop of our whiskey.
Irish Writers Centre Foundation Showcase
Friday evening kicked off with the Irish Writers Centre Foundation Showcase, spotlighting Proinsias Mac a’ Bhaird, Jackie Mac Donncha, and Catherine Foley. Their readings spanned from historical tales, such as the drama of Flaitheas to reflections on love and resilience in Oiread na Fríde. The beautiful voice of Donegal singer Emma Ní Fhíoruisce added another layer of storytelling through song, leaving the audience deeply moved.
Takin’ the Mic
Later that evening, our space came alive with creativity during Takin’ the Mic, a bilingual open-mic night. Poets, writers, and musicians—both seasoned and emerging—took to the stage, sharing works in English and Irish. It was a relaxed, inclusive event that reflected the diversity of voices and stories in Irish literature today, resonating with the same spirit of expression we celebrate in our Liberties range.
Ó Ghleann go Gleann: Litríocht na Gaeltachta
On Saturday, November 9th, the festival concluded with a focus on Gaeltacht literature. Authors Proinsias Mac A’ Bhaird, Jackie Mac Donncha, and Catherine Foley returned to showcase their work, joined by the lilting voice of Diane Ní Channain. The evening highlighted the beauty and depth of Irish language literature, offering a fitting end to an unforgettable week.
A Natural Pairing
Hosting these events felt like a natural extension of what we do at Dublin Liberties Distillery. Stories are as much a part of our identity as whiskey. Every sip of our Dublin Liberties Whiskey range—whether it’s Oak Devil, Copper Alley, or Murder Lane—is steeped in history, capturing the spirit of Dublin’s Liberties district.
Seeing our distillery filled with storytellers and guests reminded us why we love what we do: creating spaces where history, creativity, and community thrive.
Looking Ahead
As November ends, we’re already looking forward to what’s next. The holiday season is just around the corner, and we’re planning new ways to bring people together—whether it’s through a glass of whiskey or another unforgettable event.
